The house and grounds of Montpelier, home of America’s 4th President James Madison, are a remarkable sight to share and behold. Still, with Monticello to the south ans Mount Vernon to the north, the destination was not on the radar of may weekend travelers. This began to change as we targeted the right audience with electronic media, and brought the images and the history home. With the unexpected accessibility of the home (Nearly 3,000 acres and 8 miles of trails all free to the public) and the story to share (the father of the constitution lived here) we went to work on getting the message out. And soon Mr. Madison’s home was entertaining the world again. To keep the accessible tone of the house and grounds we developed the “At our house” campaign. The informal tone let potential visitor’s know this was a welcoming place – their unexpected historical home away from home.
